The existence of a library cannot be separated from its collection of knowledge resources, which forms the foundation of its services and functions. Behind the thousands of items arranged on the shelves of the Al-Bukhari Library, UiTM Pahang Branch, today stands a book that represents one of the earliest points in the formation of the UiTM Pahang library collection.
Animal Biology by Alfred John Grove was the first book placed in the UiTM Pahang Library. The book was purchased by the University of Malaya Cooperative on 7 September 1984 for RM72.69. The acquisition of this book became one of the earliest records in the history of the development of the UiTM Pahang library collection.
On 14 September 1984, the book was processed by the Tun Razak Library, Shah Alam before being sent to the ITM Pahang Branch Library, Kuantan. Its arrival enabled the book to be used as one of the reference resources available to students at the time.
The early development of this library collection took place before the official establishment of the ITM Pahang Library in the following year. In 1985, the ITM Pahang Library was established in Teluk Sisek, Kuantan. The establishment of the library formed part of the development of academic support facilities to meet the needs of the campus community, particularly in accessing reference materials and knowledge resources.
The institution’s subsequent development led to a change in the library’s location. In 1993, the ITM Pahang Library moved to its permanent campus in Bandar Jengka, in line with the growth of the campus and the need to provide more suitable library facilities for the UiTM Pahang community.
From a single book that formed part of the earliest collection, the library collection continued to grow over time. This development eventually created a repository of knowledge that supported the learning, teaching and reference needs of the campus community from one generation to the next.
Today, Animal Biology is more than just an old book in the history of the library. It forms part of the early record of the development of the UiTM Pahang library collection and illustrates how a repository of knowledge began with a small collection before growing into a more extensive library collection.
From one book, a collection grew. From a collection, a library grew. And from a library, the history of knowledge was preserved for generation after generation.
Kewujudan sesebuah perpustakaan tidak dapat dipisahkan daripada koleksi bahan ilmu yang menjadi asas kepada perkhidmatan dan fungsi perpustakaan. Di sebalik ribuan koleksi yang tersusun di rak Perpustakaan Al-Bukhari UiTM Cawangan Pahang pada hari ini, terdapat sebuah naskhah yang menjadi sebahagian daripada titik awal perjalanan pembentukan koleksi perpustakaan di UiTM Pahang.
Buku Animal Biology karya Alfred John Grove merupakan buku pertama yang ditempatkan di Perpustakaan UiTM Pahang. Naskhah tersebut dibeli oleh Koperasi Universiti Malaya (UM) pada 7 September 1984 dengan harga RM72.69. Perolehan buku ini menjadi salah satu catatan awal dalam sejarah perkembangan koleksi perpustakaan di UiTM Pahang.
Pada 14 September 1984, buku tersebut telah diproses oleh Perpustakaan Tun Razak, Shah Alam sebelum dihantar ke Perpustakaan ITM Cawangan Pahang, Kuantan. Kehadiran naskhah tersebut membolehkan bahan berkenaan dimanfaatkan sebagai salah satu sumber rujukan kepada para pelajar pada ketika itu.
Perjalanan awal koleksi perpustakaan ini berlaku sebelum penubuhan rasmi Perpustakaan ITM Pahang pada tahun berikutnya. Pada tahun 1985, Perpustakaan ITM Pahang mula ditubuhkan di Teluk Sisek, Kuantan. Penubuhan perpustakaan ini menjadi sebahagian daripada perkembangan kemudahan sokongan akademik bagi memenuhi keperluan warga kampus, khususnya dalam mendapatkan bahan rujukan dan sumber ilmu.
Perkembangan institusi kemudiannya membawa kepada perubahan lokasi perpustakaan. Pada tahun 1993, Perpustakaan ITM Pahang berpindah ke kampus tetap di Bandar Jengka, seiring dengan perkembangan kampus dan keperluan menyediakan kemudahan perpustakaan yang lebih sesuai kepada warga UiTM Pahang.
Daripada sebuah naskhah yang menjadi antara koleksi terawal, koleksi perpustakaan terus berkembang dari semasa ke semasa. Perkembangan tersebut akhirnya membentuk sebuah khazanah ilmu yang menyokong keperluan pembelajaran, pengajaran dan rujukan warga kampus daripada satu generasi kepada generasi seterusnya.
Hari ini, Animal Biology bukan sekadar sebuah buku lama dalam sejarah perpustakaan. Naskhah tersebut menjadi sebahagian daripada rekod awal perjalanan pembentukan koleksi perpustakaan UiTM Pahang dan menggambarkan bagaimana sebuah khazanah ilmu bermula daripada sebuah koleksi yang kecil sebelum berkembang menjadi koleksi perpustakaan yang lebih luas.
Daripada sebuah buku, berkembanglah sebuah koleksi. Daripada sebuah koleksi, berkembanglah sebuah perpustakaan. Dan daripada sebuah perpustakaan, tersimpanlah sejarah ilmu untuk generasi demi generasi.
